Product Description
The TA-2 has a great shape. It's slight re-curve coupled with it's molded recycled rubber handle make for a comfortable and extremely sturdy grip in forward OR reverse.Mantis Knife "Seymour" Fixed Blade Tactical/Hunting Knife HYBRID Review
I just got this knife and haven't used it yet. So far, it's a little disappointing though. The knife is reasonably sharp, but won't shave hair off my arm. I expect a brand-new, quality knife to shave me.
The handle is long and the blade is short. Kind of looks funny, but serviceable. The handle is quite comfortable and gives a good grip.
The sheath leaves something to be desired. The clip holds great, but it leaves the knife riding too high for my tastes. It is also a bear to remove. I had to get a screwdriver to pry the clip off my jeans. The knife is reasonably easy to draw, but the sheath still retains it snugly. That is good. The knife is a pain to try to re-sheath though, and that is a problem.
I wanted to try this one because I heard good things about Mantis knives, and because I understood it was made in the USA. The knife and package are not marked as to country of origin though, so I'm not sure where it's made.
I may come to like this one better when I get to use it, but right now I don't consider it a great knife for $30. The exposed tang at the butt does at least allow for batoning point-first. The knife looks great, but unless it performs great, I'll have to leave this a 3 star rating.
UPDATE: I have tried using this knife to cut cardboard, and it failed pretty miserably. It has poor edge geometry and dulls quickly. After three or four (difficult) cuts, it quit cutting and started tearing. You can buy a "Made in USA" KaBar Becker Necker for the same money, and it will perform better. Half this price will buy a "Made in Sweden" Mora knife that cuts better. Don't waste your money on a Mantis.
