Fiskars 12-6550 7797 Flip Utility Knife Review

This is the way utility knives should always have been made. The knife is made from two substantial and well painted (powder coated?) castings which are linked by a substantial hinge which also contains the lock. The knife locks open or closed. The handle is wide and comfortable and the back also serves as the cover for the blade storage.

The knife itself is both retractable and quick change. To change the blade you extend it fully then depress the button on the right and slide out the old blade. Holding the button slide in the new blade. Done. You can now retract the blade and close the knife by depressing the lock button again.

The blade storage cover is also held closed by a spring loaded catch. Inside the cover there are two spring clips on each side for holding spare blades.

There is no looseness in the knife. It might not survive being deliberately abused (thrown hard at a wall or something) but other than that it all feels like it should give years of service. If it breaks for some reason that isn't reasonable I'll be sure to update the review.
