I needed to bust rusted exhaust nuts on my 2004 Honda (Acura) TL. The car is about 10 years old + 150,000 miles but as a certificated aircraft mechanic, I decided to rebuild this car.

I'm in the midst of rebuilding the front end (suspension, subframe mounts, engine mounts, etc...), and the subframe cannot be dropped without removing the exhaust pipe-A (� Honda terminology; the header pipe). As was expected, 5 out of 9 nuts were corroded severely. Propane torch was worthless.

This kit is small but is a serious welding/torching kit and not a toy. You've got to pay attention to details or disaster's waiting. Anyway, even though I'm a certificated welder, I only had 2 days of commercial schooling in Japan so I read the instructions carefully and spent an hour just preparing the kit right. The next thing I knew, the frozen nuts were all busted loose. This kit really works!!

Aside from the kit, you'll need to supply the following on your own;

- O2 & Acetylene; a shop took my shiny new empty bottles that came with the kit and gave me rusted dirty looking bottles. This broke my heart.
- Heat/spark-resistant gloves (I bought a pair for fireplace use gloves at a local True Value and they worked well).
- Heat/spark-resistance apron (I just used Craftsman's regular apron; better than nothing approach but wouldn't recommend it)
- Wrenches for several connections (the ones that have O-rings must be finger-tight); the nut for the O2 bottle is the largest. I used water pump plier as an emergency use, but again I wouldn't recommend it and I'll go buy the matching open-end wrenches asap.
- Portable fire extinguisher.
- Other accessories as you desire.

I compared this kit & other products in the similar price range, and I've decided on this one because of the red liner that has pocket in front.

I bought the last one, which was about $306 w/shipping, but now the price has jumped. This kit, BTW, says Lincoln but made by Harrison. The torch is made in Poland, but Polish makes high-quality welding equipment so I won't complain as usual.

If you work on your car, you will not regret getting this kit (if the price comes down to $300 range). Even if you've never done gas welding, take a class at a local school for a couple of days/nights and learn the basics & safety precautions. If I could do it, so could you.
