BLACKHAWK! Black NightEdge Serrated Edge Fixed Blade Knife Review

Being a former US Marine Infantryman, I have come to understand the importance of a knife. A knife, as innocuous as it may sound, is more than just a piece of metal with a sharp edge. A knife, when properly utilized, can be better than any multi-tool out there. For many years BLACKHAWK! has been the gold standard for 'after market' military gear. One would be hard pressed to go to any military unit and not find BLACKHAWK! equipment being used. That was the same for myself and my fellow Marines. Their products are durable and practical, which brings me to the knife in question...This blade is obscenely mean looking and rightly so! It's edge is razor sharp (literally) and the back end serrated edge is great for cutting through paracord without fraying the edges. The handle is ergonomically made and grips especially well when wearing gloves. Its weight is perfectly balanced making it feel natural in my hands. On the end of the handle there is a hole perfectly fitted to string cord through to secure it better, because the one drawback is the sheath. The sheath is crap. It does not hold the blade in place, which needless to say, is a MAJOR hinderance. I had to loop paracord across the hilt essentially thickening up the handle so it would stick into the sheath. The sheath has a button fastener that is supposed to hold the blade in place, yet does not put enough tension on the blade to do that simple task, hence the need to thicken it up with paracord. Regardless of how it is mounted on your person or on your gear, that is a must unless you want to go searching around for your blade every time you go from place to place. All in all, this knife is ridiculously cool and although I have the utmost respect for my trusty Ka-Bar, this guy is simply bad-ass. One thing I do get in criticism, especially from Ka-Bar loyalists is the fact that it cannot be used as a bayonet. That said, I have never seen anyone use a bayonet (In the 4 years I was active duty) except to look cool in pictures. Another drawback is the price, but like most things BLACKHAWK! there really is no way of getting around that aspect. The adage of 'you get what you pay for' does ring true. Hopefully, they can fix the sheath, because that is the one thing not allowing this knife to be perfect.

Wiha has (likely for business reasons) split the ranges in three, where the tools is by far precise enough to cover them with two. The first two downward markings (arrows) give you a reliable 0.8 and 0.6Nm (I measured). Unless you need the greater resolution or 0.4/0.5Nm, there is hardly any point in buying the 0.4-1Nm variant.

I bought this to measure height from ground an antenna is located on a radio tower. Being that this tape is so long I could measure how far up an Amateur repeater antenna, is mounted on the side of an FM broadcast tower. Being a Ham radio operator, I can easily measure the exact length of of some wire in order to create an exact frequency length, aerial dipole antenna. That maybe cheating a little, but it makes things go so much faster, when building an antenna. In the first few days of owning this tape measure, I had climbed a radio tower to repair an antenna, measure it's height, then build a 40 meter, and 80 meter dipole antenna get them tuned and in the air, making world wide contacts within 30 minutes.

This tape measure will be an aid also for measuring property lines, , and ground engineering projects.

I was a little hesitant at first, but I decided to take the plunge and let my wild inhibitions run with my wallet.

Wowzers, was I silly for waiting so long.
First, when you read "shallow", you should know what you're getting yourself into. This socket is so superficial. All it cared about when we were out, was how I was dressed, or what kind of car I was driving. I mean, come on, it's a socket, why would it even care?
Secondly, 8" Come on. Under what kind of lighting? This socket wants to pretend it's 8" and has a size 13 shoe. No way. But, realistically, what guy doesn't add a little bit to impress the ladies? I can't fault it for that.
Finally, my only real problem with it, was the lack of a phone call the next day. I mean, I felt like a piece of meat and that just wasn't cool. I'm a man and I have feelings too. Just a thank you, or a "job well done" would have been nice.

Overall, it satisfied me greatly.
