The Genesis GDP1012A 10" Drill Press combines benchtop convenience with the features of much larger drill presses. It is powered by a 3.85 Amp induction motor for quiet, smooth performance. A 12-Speed gear box (300-2900 RPM) gives you versatility when using different bits and materials. The table rotates 360 degrees and tilts 0-45 degrees, with an easy to use rack-and-pinion height adjustment for quick and easy set up. A 5/8 in. chuck handles larger bits and the heavy cast iron base provides stability.

The drill press arrived with no box damage. Upon unpacking I noticed the crude finish on the table and base castings. All parts were provided and the drill press bolted together OK. Then I noticed that the on-off switch was improperly installed, sticking out and bending to the right, the plastic shroud holding it cracked open in another location. The depth gauge was also the severely scratched and the riveted-on indicator bent. The crank for the table works OK going up but drops in increments going down - thump, thump, thump. The worst was still to come. The belt-drive box on the top appeared to cant to the right. I opened the box to check the belts and saw that the shaft for the center pulley was bent about 10 degrees from vertical. The motor shaft is also bent backwards from vertical about 5 degrees. Neither of these shafts can be adjusted so the belts are not running true on the pulleys. I decided to try it out anyway and flipped the switch. It is very loud and the icing on the cake is that the drill shaft vibrates wobbles.

To add insult to injury, I found this same 12-speed drill press available under the name of Central Machinery for about one-hundred thirty bucks at a well-known online tool seller and by two sellers at a well-known online auction.

My advice is to buy a better quality drill press or if you really want this boat anchor then shop around. I don't want to drill oval holes so mine is going back to Amazon.
