This 3/8"-drive ratchet, and it's 1/4" and 1/2" brothers, are pretty sweet in tight areas. My brother introduced me to this one while we were working on his Camaro. He was under the engine on a creeper with very little room to swing a standard ratchet. He used this finger ratchet with an extension to put the socket where he needed it, then twisted it to tighten the bolt finger tight. He then used a torque wrench to take it the rest of the way. They work great under the dashboard, removing a gas tank or wherever space is restricted. They have a 72-tooth ratchet mechanism, so it only takes 5 degrees of twist to engage the next tooth.I thought about getting the other type of finger ratchet (which uses a small body with a knurled rim), but they chew up your hands during use. Their smaller size also cramps your hand if used for any length of time. These have a larger body with six large indents and a textured surface to provide a strong grip.
They aren't as durable as a standard ratchet, but they aren't meant to be. They're so cheap you could lose or break one occasionally and not care. In fact, Harbor Freight sells these under their "Pittsburgh" brand at about half the price. They're hard to find on that website, so unless you live near an HF store, these will do the job for you. Once you try it, you'll wonder how you got along without one.
