Schrade XT8 Xtimer Red Bloodgroove Spearpoint Review

I received the knife today and was somewhat disappointed with the design. The initial detent keeping the knife closed appears to be adequate on this knife and not overly strong. But,the thumb stud fits so closely to the the cut out in the frame and has so little protrusion out from the frame that it is difficult to open the knife using the stud. Certainly not what I would call a fast knife even though the lines might suggest otherwise. Also, it wasn't clear from the photos that this is an open frame knife. This is mostly a personal preference that can be a slight problem if you carry the knife in your pocket (I do) but to make matters worse, when closed, the blade edge rests on one of the frame pins near the tip which ends up leaving a small divot.
There is some lateral slop between the blade and frame but the finish appears to be acceptable on both blade and frame. I tried sharpening the blade but the edge seemed to easily roll over indicating to me that the steel is probably the same stuff from which they make the frame liner.
I shouldn't expect much from a knife that was priced at $14.50 but when you add the $8 for shipping and handling it makes it that much less attractive to add to a collection. For a few dollars more you can get a Buck knife with known quality and steel and, depending on the model, made in America instead of China to boot.
