I bought one of these when they first came out (5+ years ago?) and have used it endlessly to drill 3" cored holes for pipe rail installations. Never gets hot. Never had a problem. A little heavy and tiresome to use but I guess it comes with the territory. It was rated as the largest rotory hammer availible when I bought it and proves itself in use. If anything it is too heavy duty for smaller drills (less than a 1/2") as it just beats them to dust. But you can't go wrong here if power and dependability is what your after. And... it's $200 cheaper than it was those years ago. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Makita HR5000 2-Inch Rotary Hammer Spline" are high quality item.
